Hurakàn, the God of evil: custom HD Shovel frame, S&S 1.6lt engine, state of the art suspensions, by Lorenzo Fugaroli

Hurakàn was the name of one of the ancient Mayan creator gods, who blew his breath across the Chaotic water and brought forth dry land and later destroyed the men of wood with a great storm and flood. That’s why nowadays we use the word Hurricane to identify the tropical cyclones in the Caribbeans.

The idea behind this 6-months project was to have a unique, handmade, café racer build, highly powerful and with excellent dynamic and road holding features. Form and shapes of the bike have been designed from scratch and are based on the aerodynamic needs and chassis vital sizes. According to the FMW philosophy, a motorcycle must be fully drivable and highly performing while remaining a real piece of art. Everything starts from the frame, coming from a 1968 Harley Davidson Shovel: not exactly what you would look for to build a café racer, but definitely something iconic and potentially suitable for anything fast and furious. Obviously the project implied heavy modifications to the cradle, necessary to fit a new big block engine, and to the subframe, essential to give the bike the proper stance and shape of a racer. The new engine is a venerable S&S 96" Super Stock, capable of at least 95HP and 100 ft-lbs of torque. The stock swing arm has been lengthened and strengthen with a proper truss in order to make possible to use a new Bitubo monoshock, expressly built for this bike. The front-end is Showa, coming from a MV Agusta F4 with new hydraulic system tuned for the stance of the bike. The match HD/MV has been expressly chosen as a tribute to the failed merger between the two motorcycle brand that, few years ago, made the bikers dreaming about unique innovative charming motorcycles… But the dream never came through. The triple tree plates are billet hand-made. The braking system features two 6-piston Nissin calipers at the front and one Performance Machine caliper at the rear-end, both biting custom made stainless steel floating disks. The powerful 1.6 liter big twin’s features a BDL belt primary transmission, while the power is sent to wheel via a classic chain. The gearbox is coming from a 1990 Softail modified with a hydraulic clutch actuator. The feed is provided by a Mikuni flat valve 48mm carb which breath through a custom solid brass velocity stack. The bespoke stainless steel exhaust system includes two 45mm 2 in 1 collectors and a 60mm silencer. The new bodywork and the details have expressly built in 3mm hand-shaped aluminum and has been designed to withstand the good and strong vibrations of the powertrain. The engine fairing hides the oil filter and it’s shaped to cool the 5 kg of oil necessary. The fuel tank and the tail are made up of two elements and hide the fully reengineered electrics. The front light is coming from a MV Brutale, while the dashboard and the electric controls are supplied by Motogadget. The ignition is handled by a NFC system. The wheels have been tailor-made using Harley Davidson hubs, stainless steel spokes and Morad rims... It’s a show…

Spettacolo.
