Bobby Rahal is an American racing legend, a three-time CART champion (1986, 1987, 1992) and winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500. After retiring from professional racing, he founded his own team, Rahal Letterman Racing. This muscle bike is the result of a collaboration between his team and Darwin Motorcycles (Brass Balls Bobbers), designed as a tribute to Bobby’s iconic sporting career. The prototype shown in these photos, which is nearing completion, is currently being showcased at major motorcycle events across the US. It serves as the grand prize for a charity raffle benefiting Steel Anchor, an organization dedicated to supporting US Navy troops and veterans. The RLX is the prototype for a potential limited-edition production run. Its design draws inspiration from vintage café racers while embracing the aggressive aesthetic of modern American muscle cars. Dar Holdsworth and his team at Darwin Motorcycles are handling the chassis fabrication in Oklahoma City, while the carbon fiber bodywork and aluminum swingarm are set to be manufactured by Rahal Letterman in Ohio. Performance-wise, the RLX is a powerhouse: it features an S&S X-Wedge 2,163cc (132 ci) engine, delivering massive truck-like torque and 125 hp. The powertrain is completed by a Baker 6-speed transmission with a heavy-duty clutch, rolling on distinctive Leroy-Thompson wheels and equipped with high-performance Beringer brakes.

Dopo il ritiro agonistico, ha fondato un proprio team, il Rahal Letterman Team Race, con cui la Darwin Motorcycles (Brass Balls Bobbers) ha collaborato per la realizzazione di questa muscle bike, che intende rendere omaggio ai successi sportivi di Bobby. Il prototipo in foto, quasi completo, è attualmente portato in mostra in occasione di numerosi eventi motociclistici USA e rappresenta il premio in palio di una lotteria di beneficenza istituita a favore della Steel Anchor, una organizzazione che sostiene le truppe e i reduci della US Navy. La RLX è il prototipo di una probabile produzione a tiratura limitata, si ispira alle café racer del passato ma sposa lo stile delle moderne muscle car americane. Dar Holdsworth, progettista, e il suo team alla Darwin si occuperà della costruzione del telaio a Oklahoma City mentre è previsto che la costruzione della carrozzeria in fibra di carbonio e del forcellone in alluminio saranno realizzati dalla Rahal Letterman in Ohio. Il motore è un S&S X-Wedge di 2.163 cc (132 cubic inches), con una coppia da TIR e 125 CV, la trasmissione è una Baker 6 marce con frizione rinforzata, i caratteristici cerchi sono Leroy-Thompson, i freni Beringer.
