The Cyber-Retro Honda CB650R by Zife Design

When custom workshops tackle a modern machine, they often resort to fiberglass or 3D-printed composites. The Hanoi-based artisans at Zife Design decided to take the difficult route for their latest project, nicknamed “The Prototype”. They stripped a stock Honda CB650R down to its core skeleton, choosing to reshape its entire aesthetic identity using nothing but raw, hand-hammered aluminum sheets. [1] The visual flow of the motorcycle has been completely re-engineered. Up front, a bespoke metallic cowling tightly embraces a powerful Denali headlight cluster, establishing an aggressive, low-slung facial profile. This element transitions smoothly into a sweeping structural cover that conceals the factory fuel cell without compromising the bike's ergonomic footprint. The rear end benefits from a radically clean overhaul. Zife built a geometric tail unit featuring a clever, dual-purpose removable cowl, allowing the owner to transition between a solo-racer stance and passenger-ready practicality. Down below, the standard four-into-one exhaust headers are framed by a sharp, angular belly pan that mirrors the futuristic, industrial look of the upper bodywork. Accentuated by a textured leather saddle and deep bronze rims, this build stands as a prime example of high-end metal craftsmanship blurring the lines between classic cafe culture and post-modern design.

Quando le officiaffrontano una moto moderna, spesso ricorrono alla vetroresina o a componenti stampati in 3D. A Hanoi, il team di Zife Design ha scelto la strada più difficile per l'ultimo progetto, “The Prototype”. Alla Zife, hanno spogliato la CB650R di serie fino al telaio, decidendo di rimodellare interamente la sua estetica usando nient'altro che fogli di alluminio grezzo battuti a mano. L'effetto visivo della motocicletta è stato completamente cambiato. Nella parte anteriore, un cupolino metallico artiginale cinge strettamente il potente gruppo ottico Denali, definendo il frontale aggressivo e ribassato. Questo elemento si raccorda fluidamente con la scocca slanciata che nasconde il serbatoio di serie, senza però compromettere l'ergonomia della moto. La sezione posteriore beneficia di un restyling radicalmente pulito. Zife ha realizzato un codino geometrico dotato di un intelligente coprisella rimovibile a duplice funzione, che permette di passare istantaneamente da un assetto monoposto alla praticità del passeggero a bordo. In basso, i collettori di scarico originali quattro-in-uno sono incorniciati da un puntale affilato e spigoloso, che rispecchia il look futuristico e industriale del resto della carrozzeria. Impreziosita da una sella in pelle testurizzata e cerchi color bronzo profondo, questa special si afferma come un eccellente esempio di alto artigianato, capace di sfumare i confini tra la classica cultura cafe racer e il design post-moderno.
